  • I have read a few blackjack books since I started playing a few years ago, with Cardoza's quick guide to winning blackjack on my desk at the moment. If you have this book, I use the Atlantic City Multiple Deck chart for my basic strategy play. Questions for playing with a 6 deck shoe.
  • Basic strategy for shoe games (4 decks), S17. The table below illustrates basic strategy for shoe games with four decks. The dealer stands on Soft 17, doubling down is allowed on any 2 cards, double down after split is permitted (DAS) and there is no surrender. The dealer peeks. The casino has an estimated edge of 0.38%.
  • However, since most casinos have multi-deck games, card counters must practice until they can maintain a true running count and adjust their wagers against 4, 6 and even 8-deck shoes. The payoff is that even a simple Plus Minus Count can offer the counter an advantage over the house and can be fairly easy to implement on a shoe game.

Hey everyone, this is my first post as I am quite new to the forum, but I have serveral questions I think would be best asked all at one time. I have a few casinos I visit throughout the midwest, and for the most part, the rules tend to be the same: dealer hits soft 17, double any card, split any card (aces hit once), doubling allowed after splitting. If you have this book, I use the Atlantic City Multiple Deck chart for my basic strategy play. Questions for playing with a 6 deck shoe:
1)using the hi/lo method with (10-A = -1) (7,8,9 = 0) (2-6 = 1) what running count should i start with as I enter a brand new shoe? I have done a lot of internet research, and for the most part, places say different things. I generally begin a shoe from the 0 position, but I would like to be more precise with my count. The places I play will show the burn/blind if asked.
2)I use a betting table based on the true count with a spread from 5 to 25:
True Count Units bet
0-1 1
2-3 2
4-5 3
6-7 4
8 and up 5
I have thought about making the spread wider to increase my chances of having more on the table when the deck is in my favor. My question is what you would suggest in this spread as far as making or not making changes? I don't have a huge bankroll, but I like to bring 100-150 to the table per session.

Shoe contains 6 decks (they mix 6 decks of cards together) Blackjack pays 3 to 2 You can double down on any 2 cards You can double down after splitting (Except aces).

6 Deck Shoe Blackjack Strategy Chart

I've been practicing a lot, and I'm finding it's a lot easier for me to manage a 2 deck game. Is this the same for everyone? A newbie question where you'll say 'duh, no kidding.'? Or do you in some cases prefer a 6 deck game?
I realize the rules will not necessarily be equal in terms of S17, Early Surrender, etc... but I'm curious if you have a strong preference. Isn't it easier to count into and increase your bet reliably in two deck? Perhaps not if there are fewer cards, and thus less variance in distribution of high to low cards. Anyway, really looking forward to your responses. Thank you. ; )
